Cornell University vs Georgia Institute of Technology (Georgia Tech)

Cornell University

Cornell was my initial first choice my sophomore year. I fell in love with the pictures of campus as a young, misled sophomore. The part that really turned me away from Cornell was the pricetag, and the location. Lots of snow (New York), lots of money ($68k/year). Also, initially, I didn't take into account my desire for German studies as well, so it dropped pretty quickly in both practical and desireable terms. Cornell has many great programs, but I don't think it would be an ideal setting for me.

Georgia Institute of Technology (Georgia Tech)

Visiting Georgia Tech was the best reason to miss homecoming of all time. I fell in love with the campus, though I might have been in a slight delirium due to seeing one of my closest friends for the first time. I didn't know we both shared a similar career path until we talked about it at length for a while. I was very excited to see her, so that might have put my impression of campus in a slightly-skewed light.

Georgia Tech was my first choice, and I truly loved how close everything was, the music venues, the co-op opportunities and study abroad programs. It would've been approximately $45k/year, which is about the average cost for an out-of-state public university. The only drawback was I could not double major in German at Georgia Tech, but I still could've pursued a minor in the curriculum. Sadly, I was turned away, more than likely due to my not-quite-top-10% GPA. I was torn up about it, but it is what it is. I'm destined to do great things at OSU, in that case.
