OBJECTIVE

Sarah McCaslin; the history

I've always been a dreamer, influenced by works of fiction that have a childish overtone but typically contain much more than that, theme-wise. If I invest myself in a work of fiction, it takes ages for me to move forward onto something else, and that work of fiction doesn't ever leave me.

As somewhat embarrassing as it is, I was inspired to go into biomedical engineering due to a character in an anime that made prosthetics for her childhood friend, despite being only eleven years old (initially) and with only a bit of help from her grandmother. I was deep into the show freshman year, when Mr. McCabe had his Honors Science 9 kids enter a competition for a technology that is plausible in 15 years. I had the idea that perhaps, instead of prosthetics, we would have the ability to regrow missing limbs (which is a bit harder than just printing organs). Sadly, I put the project off until the last minute and didn't put nearly enough effort into it as I wish I could've, but I learned so much about muscles and skin and bones. Just that little push led me on an investigation into what career involved medical experience and engineering, and thus the career of biomedical engineering was discovered.

so now what?

I found a career that lined up with my eventual goal, but the next step was finding out what colleges actually contained my major, plus allowed me to also expand on my German studies. As one might expect, that list was very narrow. I found a total of three in-state schools, but a plethora of ones outside of Ohio, plus a dozen overseas in Germany itself. The next step is the hard one: deciding on a school that would take me. My capstone is a culmination of my research of various undergraduate programs on four levels: state, regional, ivy league, and international.

capstone information

I plan on learning about various universities, their tuition costs, and determining from their campuses and websites if that school is the right one for me.

I expect to draw a conclusion about the schools I could possibly attend and what will be the best choice for me.

At the moment, this doesn't affect any relationships I've made, but it does impact my social interactions once college time actually approaches. I would make a completely different set of friends depending on which college I decide to go to.

This benefits me because I have a chance to look at all my different options for tertiary education and further my knowledge overall.
